Football, Snow, and Love...

So, we decided to engage in women's outdoor flag football this year. It's a non-contact sport and a lot of fun they said. Pong (Tia) and I joined the team with blind optimism - we get to play on turf and under the lights? Sweet! Mind you, neither one of us know the rules of football, let alone what each position is supposed to do.

If that wasn't the first indication of things to go awry, the fact that I was provided a size Medium high school football jersey, this gorgeous thing was so long that I could wear it as a dress. So while the rest of my team sauntered around the football field in fancy Steelers jersey, I looked like a 10 year old wearing her brother's jersey.

Then we played our first game against the aptly named Raiders, who turned out to be the number one team in the State (for old lady flag football). This little known fact would've been helpful prior to lining us up on the defensive line. Knowing what the defensive line was supposed to do would've been good too...but that's all history.

This slaughtering was made even more fun by the fact that I was matched against a very voluptuous creature twice my size. The first drive I got choked - that's right, she wrapped her hands around my throat. Did I say this was non-contact? After regaining my wits and shaking off the dizziness, I lined up again. This time I got socked in the gut, which I just chalked up to an aggressive play. Then the third drive I decided I would start protecting myself, so I raised my arms to block...and I got bit. Yes, I said she bit me. I would've probably come unglued, but it looked like I gave her a fat lip in the process. Don't worry, my sister rubbed me down with Clorox to ward off any infection.

To recap the season's injuries - I got knocked down so hard that I had a mild concussion and whiplash, slapped in the face, and some other stuff. It was a really fun season! :) To top off the ridiculously funny season, we ended yesterday's "Superbowl" with an inch of snow falling on us as we took second place behind those damned Raiders. It was a nice way to welcome winter to Anchorage!

This is a photo of our team enjoying post-game festivities. I'm fairly certain that we were number one in the beer drinking league!
