I Dig Power Tools
I seriously dig them. They call my name as I walk through the HIW stores, seriously. In fact, one of the willing participants jumps into my cart as I walk by. They want to go home with me, I'm sure of it. It works for me, since I have fabulous new projects on the horizon that require shiny new jigsaws, orbital sanders, skilsaws, etc. Yep, it's the two weeks on...el husbando is gone and I need to work on home projects!
The first project I tackled was a good one! Our spare bathroom is a long, lovely room with delicious heated floors and a great big tub from the 1950's. But it needed a little pizazz. Yes, I used that term...I did jazz hands when I said it aloud.
In my daily viewing of Ana White's web-site, (which by the way is the coolest site of all time) I found the board and batten project. BOOM - perfect fix for the shitter powder room. Of course, I got the wild hair for this project while I was at work...without measurements for the room. You can see where this is going. In my gung ho state, I stopped by my favorite HIW and grabbed my 1x's in 8' lengths. I'm thinking, there's no way that wall is over 8' long. Um yeah...I get home, strap on my pink toolbelt, and pull out the tape measure. Houston, we've got a problem...our length is 8'-6" (no shit).
Guess what, the 1x's in 10' lengths cost three times as much. This should've been my first warning sign. Nope, trudging on...I'll save the gory details, but here's a synopsis. Finally, all lumber is purchased and ready. Skilsaw is waiting with baited breath. Tank is running away from power tools - scaredy cat. I get out the level and check out my floor - are you freaking kidding me?! Not even remotely level...we've got a 1/4" gap at the center. Still trudging on...guess what the wall isn't plumb either. Yep...AND the best part yet, the studs have NO pattern, zero! It took a lot of messing around to figure out some weird spacing to make it work and look like I did it on purpose. It took me longer than necessary to deal with the existing conditions, but I'm pleased with the outcome. It also took a 12 pack of Bud Light Lime that I found on the back porch...thank you Dookie!
Now that it's complete, I've decided that the neutral grey paint needs to be pizazzed up too! Jazz hands. If you know me, you can probably guess what color that's going to be! :)
This is how Tank helped me along the way...snoring in the middle of the workspace. Until the jigsaw or Dremel (Trio) fires up - which by the way is the COOLEST tool of all time! If you don't have one - go buy one - you will love it...and you will use it for the strangest things imaginable! Seriously, do it now...run to Lowes HIW now! :)
Bet you can't wait to see what I do next!?
