Nerdy Girl vs. Productive Girl
So, here I am...a few short days away from a big trade show and my list of "to do" is getting longer. Strangely enough, my list of "books I've read" is also growing. There is a direct correlation and my "to do" list is about to blow up in my face. While I should be sewing new skirts, baby shoes, and tutus for this fabulous show, I've had my nose stuck in a book. To be more accurate, I've had my face glued to my Nook reading a new (old) series by Vince Flynn. This is super nerdy, I know. The upside: I've surpassed my self-imposed reading challenge of 25 books for the year.
The downside: those skirts aren't going to sew themselves. One solution would be to have Bub hide the Nook from me until after the show, but I have a feeling that I might attack him demanding the location. Perhaps, I should step away from the Nook and head over to my sewing machine? The productive girl needs to create.
Meanwhile, back at Mabel McKinley, we've been preparing for the show by ordering fabulous new fall dresses, jackets, and accessories. The weather has been changing and Alaskan girls will be trying to stay warm while maintaining some sense of style. As most of you know, Travel & Leisure magazine recently named Anchorage as the #1 worst-dressed cities in America. What the Foxtrot, you say?
Alaskans have a distinct style that doesn't always fit the norm of warmer sister states. I think that's part of the charm of living in Alaska. We pride ourselves on being independent, not on sparking the latest fashion trend. At Mabel we're doing our part by finding kick-ass Alaskan-worthy pieces. Contrary to the remarks of Travel & Leisure, Alaskans are kind of a big deal and we can pave our own way through the winter with style. Speaking of independent, support your local shops this year!
I think it's about time to wrap up this nerdy girl gone wild post and call it a day. Off to the sewing machine I go! Happy Tuesday!

| Case in point: So what if we wear X-tra Tuffs with Daisy Dukes? |
