DIY Stockings For The Holiday Season!

This is for Dynasti...who has a new sewing machine that's just itching to be used!  Mind you...I make my own patterns and rules, so if you need help - let me know.  :)
Step One

Step one - make a pattern (or go to JoAnn's on $1 pattern day and get a stocking pattern).  I use old blueprints from work because the paper's huge and FREE. And, I am weird.  Here's my pattern (which by the way, I made too skinny on the top - it's not quite proportionate with the bottom.  Which is fine because I've always dumped my stocking out to get the loot!).  You need to cut two of the outside fabric (you can see that ours are themed for the individual) and two of your inside pieces.  And you'll need two of any interfacing or batting that you use (to make puffy or more sturdy).
Cut exterior, interior & interfacing

Exterior & interior sewn
Step two - iron on the interfacing to your exterior pieces (on the wrong side). Pin the right sides (pretty sides) together of the interior and exterior.  Sew along the stocking leaving the top open.  After you've sewn your seam, turn the exterior piece right side out.  Leave the interior sock with wrong sides out.  Now you'll have two socks - interior and exterior.

Step three - stick that interior into the exterior piece like so.  It will be sticking out of the top a bit - that is perfectly okay.
Interior inside exterior

Interior folded over exterior
Step four - fold the interior piece down over the top of the stocking twice.  Now you'll have a nice folded edge on top of the stocking. Cute, right?  Yep.  Now...it should be noted that I am a lazy sewing chick.  In fact, that's what this blog should be called...  Anyway, now that you have a lovely fold - do a decorative zig-zag stitch over the fold either at the bottom or both bottom & top.  I used rivets here - because like I said, I am lazy!  At this point, I also riveted the loop for hanging the stockings.  If you want to be fancy, you can take your ribbon and sew directly into the exterior piece about four inches from the top (ribbon loop will be facing into the stocking when you sew the exterior piece).

Here are our finished products...

And then I used some fabulous puffy paint (LOVE puffy paint) and add the names.  My hubby also wanted his number...so here we are.  ;)

Stocking Love
Good luck my dear.  :)  Can't wait to see what you come up with!
